There’s nothing like a day on the range. The shock of the recoil, the clatter of casings, the satisfaction of sending round after round home… and it smells like the fourth of July. Nothing beats a day of shooting.
Besides, being a well-prepared citizen isn’t just about the equipment you own. It’s also your ability to use that equipment safely and accurately.
With that in mind, we’ve rounded up five of the best damn places to shoot your gun in Texas. Whether you want to upgrade your skills with advanced marksmanship training or just relax and send some rounds, we’ve got you covered.
So if you’re overdue to expend some ammo, grab your gun bag and check out one of the great ranges we’ve rounded up.
Champion Firearms is an indoor range located in College Station. Their lanes feature 10-foot deep privacy shooting booths constructed of solid steel plate — so it’s a great place to shoot if you’re looking to completely avoid unsolicited shooting advice and political monologues from fellow shooters. Champion’s lanes are also outfitted with state-of-the-art target retrieval systems, air filtering, and sound studio-quality sound dampening. Plus: zombie targets!
This family-owned and operated range in Plano hosts eighteen safe, clean handgun lanes and two rifle lanes. They also offer reduced membership rates for frequent shooters. The range can be a bit crowded, especially on the weekends, so it never hurts to show up early.
Spring Guns & Ammo is a full-service gun shop and indoor shooting range serving North Houston. They offer fifteen climate-controlled pistol and rifle firing lanes; a full-time on-site gunsmith; and a variety of courses — from your standard CHL to tactical shooting and advanced marksmanship.
American Shooting Centers of Houston is a great outdoor facility hosting a slow-fire pistol range; three ten-station Sporting Clays courses; and skeet-shooting fields. Sure, outdoor courses can be hot, but it’s worth it if you get to spend your morning shooting traps.
Elm Fork Shooting Sports of Dallas is a sprawling facility offering a 50-yard range, American Skeet shooting, archery, paintball, a 5-station dove course, a private tactical bay, a huge clubhouse, and much more. Whatever you’re into, you can probably do it at Elm Fork—on clean, well-maintained grounds run by an organized and friendly crew. While you’re there, you’ll have a hard time believing you’re in the heart of the city.
Of course there are many other great places to shoot — too many to include here. For more locations across Texas and beyond, check out USA Carry’s directory of gun ranges.
